Farina

When Tom and I were dating for about 2 months, he asked his parents if his girlfriend from Pennsylvania could come for a visit and stay over the New Years 2010 weekend.

Up to that point heard about a girl who their son met online. But never caught her name every-time it was mentioned. So they asked, "what's her name?" and Tom said "Farin". And then they said this gem "Oh, like Farina?"

Yup, just like the cereal. And they said I could visit for New Years.

So tell me...

When you met your significant others' family for the first time, did they name you after food?
Any interesting stories?

  1. I don't have any interesting stories, but my name is so typical I didn't really expect any. Haha. I hope you have a great day!

    1. True.... I always wanted a more common name, but this nickname is pretty good. Better than being called Fahrenheit.... kids can be so mean :)

  2. I met my husband online and was SO nervous about meeting his family--especially because I was flying down to visit and I was by myself aside from my (now) husband. I asked him constantly if he thought they were going to like me and he said "Of course they will!" Which still didn't make me feel any less nervous. I had nothing to be nervous about though because they're great and we get along well. I can't say they associated me with a food, but we did have a good time joking around and getting to know one another.

    1. What a relief it is to have good inlaws. So many horror stories about bad experiences or the crazy mother-in-law. Bonus points if both sets of in-laws like each other!

  3. Love the picture :) I was wondering how Farin was pronounced- in my head I say it like rhyming with Karen. My name is boring- I go for more interesting names for sure.

    1. That's exactly right.... and I actually tell people that "it's like Karen, but with an F". Really though, I had been Fareen for an entire semester of Sociology (of all subjects).

  6. I don't have any really interesting nicknames either. My parents called me Ricky most of the time and only Erica if I was in trouble. Then it was Erica in capital letters and an exclamation mark. ERICA!
    I knew when to run.

  7. Nope, not food, but my MIL has this thing with giving everyone nicknames from flowers. So my nickname is Sweet pea. Guess it could be worse. :)
