Candid Camera- NYC Subway

Some people travel to and from work and never look up from their iPhone. Today I'm posting all the photos I've taken on the NYC Subway, that you might've missed otherwise.

I have a long commute, so grab a coffee and get comfy.
Also, Tom kind of photobombed one of the below photos. Do you see him?

It has been discussed in a past post that I love taking candids during my commute. Why not make it official, and try to do it right?

Does anyone else do this? Anyone have photos from taking public transit?

This post was brought to you by the A-Z Challenge, and the letter:

    1. I bet you'd get a lot of material. The hard part is getting a decent photo (because of the shaking) and getting it before it ends or they leave, etc.

  4. You just made me miss home, Long Island. I love taking the train into the city when I go for a visit. Such fun. I used to take the LIRR into the city all the time. The best part - the musicians.

    1. Ugh. My least favorite part. I have a few rants dedicated to them (not all of them- some performers are nice!)

    1. Ha- no. They are actually hard to find. Payphones are so needed in lower income areas (and underground) but I rarely see them- instead finding where they used to be but empty.

  7. My daughter takes 100's of pictures of the sky every day. To me they end up looking the same, but she can tell you the subtle differences in each one.

    1. Kids are amazing. Then they grow up, and get a smartphone. I miss laying outside and watching clouds.

  8. Very cool! Thanks for this glimpse into real New York life. I haven't taken pics of our city buses, but I have gotten a lot of writing inspiration from them.

    1. Most of my inspiration from public transit results in ranting posts. Luckily, I later delete them :)

  10. Such great photos!
People watching is a great form of entertainment... never a dull moment!
I wonder what most of the commuters did before the i-Phone invention...? Sleep? Read books/newspapers?
Have a hearty conversation and get to know a stranger? Don't think so.

    1. I love looking at photos from the 70s/80s on the subway. Crazy how times have changed! Back then they probably read the graffiti on the walls of the subway cars. I doubt chatting it up with a stranger. I see that occasionally and it freaks me out. Who in their right mind talks to other New Yorkers. Oh yeah, tourists lol

  12. Great pictures. I lived in Manhattan from 2001-2006 and used to walk to work. There was so much to see!

    1. There still is (guess not much has changed). Maybe I should do a yearly Candid Camera and see what changes :)

  13. I like your photos! I'm visiting you from our CBWU group! I do have some candid metro photos from a recent trip to Paris and Rome. It's a fascinating place, the subway. It's an ideal spot for people watchers! You have a lovely blog. I am planning a trip to your great city within the next year with my children. I've been there as a teen but they haven't and I'd like them to have a great experience there. Any tips! ;)

    1. I was just beginning a series (which I dropped when I found out I was pregnant and couldn't post ever day) called "A New Yorker's Guide to NYC".

The best place to read about locations around the city is to click the "Exploring NYC" tab at the top of the page or subscribe to the Facebook page. I'm hoping to help people who are visiting learn a bit before coming, from the inside.

I would love to go to Europe and people watch, sounds great :)
