Recently, my co-workers created one of their office lottery pools. They were having a conversion about what they would do if they won the lottery, and although I never opt in with them, someone asked me what I would do. While that question is actually my letter L entry later this month, taking a vacation obviously came up.

I would probably choose Greece, or a (long) Mediterranean cruise. Which works out perfect, considering Tom would most likely answer by saying he would visit Israel and Turkey. See some of the places mentioned in the Bible. So this trip would make the most sense.
But, I also dream about going somewhere that makes no sense at all.
Ireland.

This makes no sense though, because we don't drink, I don't care for the cuisine and really, and it's not like I'm all about my being half Irish. And what do you do when over there?
It's just so pretty. We'd probably look at amazing views all day. Maybe I'd take up sheep herding. Tom could bike around the countryside. Nice and relaxed.
This post was brought to you by the A-Z Challenge, and the letter:
I'd like to travel in the middle east :-)
ReplyDeleteI bet you get some raised eyebrows :)
DeleteGorgeous location, there are so many things to see in the Middle East. Being the cradle of civilization and all.
My dream destination?
ReplyDeleteParis. And Santorini in Greece.
Writer In Transit
Good list- Paris brings to mind macaroons, street cafes and art galleries. It's amazing how places are portrayed in our minds when we've ever been there.
DeleteOh wow, dream vacation. Where to start. I have been blessed to visit several countries in my life, but I still have two dream destination. Spend a week in Italy, Florence, Tuscany, Rome and Vatican City.
ReplyDeleteMy other dream vacation would be spending a week in Japan. I spent three days in Tokyo and it wasn't nearly enough.
My one friend did a study-abroad opportunity in Japan and always raved about it. Sounds like an amazing experience, whether for business, school or pleasure!
DeleteA Mediterranean cruise sounds amazing!! I would also love to go to one of those tiki huts that is sitting over the ocean for a dream vacation! You know, you just walk out on the deck and dip your toes right in the water!
ReplyDeleteI think ever person who has ever google searched for a background knows those tiki huts. So beautiful, I love the ones with a hammock just above the water level.
DeleteI'm with you! I want to go to Ireland or Scotland so bad just because it's beautiful and I like the accents. My hubby and I don't drink either, but I'd go in a heartbeat. I can look at pictures of the Isle of Skye all day long. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people want to go there just because it is so beautiful. It speaks to the part of us that longs to disconnect.
DeleteAll of the above places look so enticing. I would love to go most anyplace in the world, so much to see and experience. On Ireland, the country is so truly beautiful, fresh, exhilarating, and natural in the countrysides, highly recommended. Hiking and boating, plenty to photograph. On the cuisine of Ireland, it is only fair to say that the level of care offered from small pubs to dining establishments is exceptional, and the fish, cheeses, breads all so very good! A lot of fabulous food to be enjoyed in Ireland! Thanks for the dream Post!
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of Irish cuisine I think of blood pudding and pigs feet. Soda bread and potatoes. If they have some nice cheese, maybe that could sway me :)
DeleteThose pictures look amazing. My dream vacation would be an European cruise.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm not the only one addicted to cruising. Like a resort, except it takes you places.
DeleteHey, pretty is a perfectly good reason to travel somewhere! :) I would also love a Mediterranean cruise or a trip to Italy. I don't drink much, but my husband does, and both places would provide plenty of photographic inspiration! Also last night my friend and I were fantasizing about India.
ReplyDeleteIndia! Wow, that would be such an amazing experience. If you ever go you better write about that!
DeleteOh believe me, I will. I'm pretty sure I would be bombarded by inspiration almost instantly and 'suffer' from too much to write and too many photos to share! :)
DeleteI doubt anyone would mind! Good way to suffer :)
DeleteIreland? I would totally go see my writing buddies who live there. Hands down. And then I'd spend an afternoon writing in the beautiful landscape. *sigh* I wouldn't mind winning the lottery. =D
ReplyDeleteIf you have friends that are locals, the experience goes way up! They would know everywhere to take you. I love showing people around NYC who've never come before. It's great to be a tour guide too!
DeleteIreland is definitely on my list. India too. And Indonesia...I see a theme here. :-) Love daydreaming about travel. You had me at vacation. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAlways daydreaming about vacation! You as well
DeleteIreland is wonderful, I want to go back! I don't drink either and the food doesn't really excite me. We went for my best friends wedding (they live in New Mexico, but did a destination wedding). My dream for another Ireland trip would be to go horseback riding along the Ring of Kerry or something like that. It would be awesome! My next "vacation" is actually a mission trip to Mongolia this summer - a month of amazing times!
ReplyDeleteBeing a vet travelling to mongolia... working on the animals or spreading the word? I hope to read about it when you return!
DeleteThat picture looks inviting, and a week listening to the lilting Irish accent doesn't sound half bad :)

I'm stoked about going to Canada and listening for the 'eh?'s and the 'aboot' to come out. I could just imagine me around that accent, would love it!
DeleteI would love to go to Ireland. All those green rolling hills and stone castles. I would also love to go to Italy and tour different cities and experience all that wonderful food!
ReplyDeleteI could just loose myself in the old stone buildings for a few days... and the food of Italy does sound amazing.
