Spring Flowers and Ikea Furniture

1. What's the first image that comes to mind when you hear the word 'spring'? Which phrase best describes the season of spring where you live right now (today)-sprung! almost there, or still waiting?
Daffodils. Then crocuses, tulips, and the smell of wet dirt. Obviously flowers are the best part of spring for this farmer's daughter. Still waiting for that weather, but the temperature is going to reach 60 today!
2. Bed, couch, stapler, garage door, computer mouse, recliner, flashlight, door knob...which household item containing springs most needs replacing in your home? Speaking of springs...did you ever own a Slinky?
Our couch. Besides the fact that our cat sometimes claws the corners, it has lost its 'spring' in the main cushion. We owned nothing but a television prior to marriage, so when we moved in after the honeymoon we went to Ikea. And bought every piece of furniture that that is in our house from there (except mattress).

This summer I plan on doing a 'how did they hold up' review on all the Ikea pieces. Short story: we love our bookshelf and bed frame but you should avoid buying their kitchen chairs. They wobbled after a month, and are semi-hazardous to sit in.

Moved!
The first blog post I wrote was about moving, our Ikea mega trip and the scary stuff we found on our fire escape

3. March is Women's History Month. Share a favorite quote by a woman.
We did not change as we grew older; we just became more clearly ourselves.

4. What's a question that looms large in your mind right now?
Will I get a positive test this weekend. Starting to think that this is a recurring question, in which case I'll offer another.

Wondering if I'll be able to pull off my A-Z challenge, since it requires a lot of photography in the next 3 weeks, and the weather isn't the most accommodating.

5. Are you a sugar freak? By that I mean how much do you love sugar? With all the bad press sugar gets these days, have you made any efforts to reduce the amount of sugar you consume?
I am, and I can't say that I've made a strong effort to cut back. I have moved towards coffee without sugar, but sometimes Dunkin Donuts coffee just needs some syrup. I do like hot lattes without sugar though. This does not sound very impressive, but I do drink a lot of coffee. So there's that.

6. Would you rather have less work to do or more work you enjoy doing?
I'll take either. To have work that you love would be optimal, but seeing as how I am not at all dependent on that for happiness of fulfillment, I'd happily spend less time doing something I don't love (which opens up time for other ventures that I might). Like drinking coffee and daydreaming about daffodils.

7. Ever been to Texas? Of the top ten Texas tourist attractions which would you most like to see-The Alamo, The San Antonio River Walk, The State Capital, Dallas World Aquarium, Padre Island National Seashore, Houston Space Center, Schlitterbahn Waterpark in New Braunfels, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Moody Gardens, or Galveston Island?
Can't say I have, but we did consider a Gulf Coast/Padre Island honeymoon until we really sat down and thought about it. A lot of travelling and running around. We took a cruise instead.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Made some more homemade bread, which always makes me happy :)

So tell me...
Do you dream about the flowers that spring will bring?
Have you ever made homemade bread, and what is your recipe?
If you're doing the April A-Z challenge, do you have your posts written/photos taken?

  1. That bread looks fabulous! There is nothing like homemade bread rigth out of the oven slathered in butter. Next week I should ask if anyone is a butter freak : )

    1. I never considered that I was making the apartment building salivate by baking, maybe I should throw them a loaf sometime :)

  3. I hope you get good test results this weekend. Enjoy the sunshine and warmth today :) Your bread looks delicious. I haven't made my own bread in a long while, although my daughter and I made dinner rolls last night.
Thanks for your comment today. I'm going back to change my blog background to St. Paddy's Day!

    1. Thank you, and dinner rolls are likely more versatile a bread. Glad you got my joke, but what a chilly design :)

    1. Hm. Maybe I could start a company to ship that fresh baked scent to those in need. Think a ziplock baggie would work?

    1. I remember being shocked that we never saw Dunkin' Donuts on the west coast. Of course, that trip really fueled our love of Starbucks and we've been hooked to them ever since returning.

  6. I love the smell of homemade bread. I've made some but I have yet to make any that I truly enjoy. I still have work to do in that category.

    1. Hm, perhaps you'll like this recipe. Click the link to see my recipe, it's pretty foolproof as long as the water temperature is around 105-110 degrees (and not any higher). I've done that and the yeast died, making for one hard loaf of bread.

  7. Your homemade bread looks wonderful. Let me know if you decide to come to Texas! San Antonio area is the best.

    1. If we plan a trip anywhere, it will be talked about in excess on here, so you will see plenty about it. I've never really done the research, but would love to take Tom and the inlaws to do a Southwest US roadtrip. They always talk about Texas, so it could happen in a year or so :)

    1. I know, that first photo just made me smile! The moment you see buds on the trees and things begin to flower (especially living in NYC) is momentous.

  9. Your bread looks so good! My mom would always bake homemade bread around the holidays and the house would smell heavenly! The closest I've got to making homemade bread is using my bread maker...does that count?
At my old house there was this one random little crocus on the side of the house that was always the first spring flower to make its appearance. The sight of that little flower always made me so happy!

    1. I hear that a lot of people don't do it because they're intimidated, but it's really not that hard. I posted the link above the bread if you're interested! And that one early bloomer would be my favorite thing to wait for- what a funny thing to happen ever year!
