This was March 1st in Times Square. In like a lion was accurate.
And how about this fool standing in the middle of the street for the perfectly aligned Times Square photo?
Literally. Also, its vs it's.
I suppose I'm an optimist. I would have said realist in the past but this has changed since becoming a Christian. In trusting God, I know that any unfortunate situation (sickness, job loss, barrenness) does not mean that it's time to start scrambling to fix it myself. It's time to pray, hand it over to God, and yes, then be proactive. Understanding that God works all things for his glory reminds me that I'm blessed to have anything at all.
I suppose that would be saving money. We're at the point in the year where we start planning out the big vacations, in addition to trips, outings and a schedule of friends/family visiting the city. This weekend my best friend from Pennsylvania is coming with her daughter, and a NYC trip during the winter means that money will be spent. But I'm taking a break from buying all non-essentials until April.
Floors are always first, especially since I have to leave dishes out to dry and sweeping would stir up the stuff into the air. And everything I dusted would be dirty again. I've realized that I have very specific reasons for doing things the way I do, in the order I do them in. I enjoy dusting, and usually wipe down shelves and tables each morning.
I hate mopping especially, and anything that requires smelly cleaning solution will be done right before I leave the house (or sometimes I just hide behind a closed bedroom door until it dissipates). I hate the smell. Tom doesn't think about it before starting, and will pour Fabuloso or Mistolin our trash cans while I'm eating something a room away. I'm incredibly picky about scents as well, especially floor cleaners. Tom loves the brand Mistolin, while I prefer Fabuloso (but not the purple one). I will settle for Gardenia (the only acceptable Mistolin scent) but gag on the Apple scent.
6. According to thrilllist.com, the ten most photographed sites in the U.S.A. are-Cinderella's Castle in Orlando, Southernmost House in Key West Florida, The Space Needle in Seattle, The Site of the Boston Massacre in Boston, The Bellagio Lake/fountains in Las Vegas, The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, Coit Tower in San Fransisco, The Art Institute of Chicago, Niagara Falls, and snagging the number one spot-The Guggenheim Museum in New York City. 7. Fifty years ago Monday (March 2, 1965) The Sound of Music premiered at the Rivoli Theatre in NYC. Have you seen the film? Do you own a copy? On a scale of 1-10 how much do you love it (or not)? Ten=best movie ever. If you're a fan, what's your favorite scene or song from the movie?
I don't remember it other than knowing my elementary music class dedicated a week to watching this movie. And instead of watching the movie I'm pretty sure I was passing notes.
I'm officially a Vazquez! Remember when I mentioned that I was a fraud? I'm not anymore :)
So tell me...
What is your favorite floor cleaner (and which scent)?
Where you shocked by the places on the Top 10 list as well?
How long did it take you to OFFICIALLY change your name, or complete any type of paperwork?

I was a little surprised the Guggenheim took the top spot, but the building itself is a marvel. I love it! I haven't heard of the products you mentioned, but am super picky about scent. If I find something I like I hesitate to change. I can't handle anything too flowery, and lean more toward citrus or just 'fresh'. My daughter has just gone through all the name changing rigamarole-new social security card, license, military id, car tags...it's a lot but she's official now :)
ReplyDeleteI guess the Guggenheim gets either raving reviews or 'eh' ones. I'm in the 'eh' crowd ;)
DeleteGood on her for getting it done immediately. I'd like to say I had good reasons (lost cards, airline tix, etc) but it still looks 'weird' to others when you haven't changed, despite really wanting to.
When I joined the military, I was forced to change my name as it was too long for their taste. It didn't take me long at all. By the way, growing up, my mom was all about that Mistolin.
ReplyDeleteToo long for their taste? Interesting how someone's last name could inconvenience the military. My husband holds fast to that stuff, granted, I think it's a cultural cleaner. Something I never saw until moving to the city.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
The Sound if Music is one of my absolute faves! Julie Andrews is a dream :). In fact I sing songs from the movie to my nanny kids all day long!
ReplyDeleteI really cant imagine enjoying it, watching it for the first 'real' time. But, the fact that you love it and are enjoying it with the next generation ensures that it will live on (and makes me feel less guilty about being a negligent movie connoisseur)!
DeleteGee, all the name changes and rigamarole was almost 50 years ago for me. Yes, we will have been married 50 years on Sept. 4 of this year. Where has the time gone? It sounds like you might run a tour business out of your home, but I'm sure you enjoy showing family and friends your home city. What a place to live!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I have a degree in travel and tourism, and we love to travel and host family from far away. It's cathartic to venture out and see what you miss, when it's right under your nose. Something I couldn't do when I lived on the farm. When people come to visit, we get to be unabashed tourists :)
DeleteI can't believe the Guggenheim is number one- out of what? Who is taking all these pictures of a museum, anyway? I do love the Sound of Music, haven't seen it in awhile though. And amazingly, despite my natural tendency to procrastinate, I got my name changed a month or two after I got married. I was so done with people mispronouncing and misspelling my maiden name!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that people either love or hate the Guggenheim, and I'm guessing those that love it are taking tons of photos of it (pushing it to #1). I understand the Space Needle, and I probably pushed that one up on the list when we visited last year. How do 'they' know about these photos though? And who are 'they'? Good questions to ask.
DeleteYeah the Guggenheim surprised me with all the other NY spots like you listed. I "literally" can't:-)
ReplyDeleteGood job on the name change, it's such a pain but at least you're now legit! I've been trying to go all-natural with cleaning products but I infuse orange into vinegar so I guess that's my favorite scent! Happy Wed! Enjoy the time with your friend this weekend:-)
Ahh! The word! And I accidentally bought a candle last month from bath and body works that smelled like cleaner (lemon mint leaf) and it was horrible. Orange are much better!
DeleteHi, Farin!
ReplyDeleteNow that March has come and gone, what's your weather like now?
I love Cinderella's Castle. However, I don't have any pictures of it.
Same here, I took a few in 2005 but have no idea where any of them are. June weather is 80-90 degrees, still comfortable (and in many ways, cooler than September is). Enjoying it :)
