1. Speaking of April 15th...what's the most 'taxing' thing you've done recently?
Monday. After the immediate glee of seeing a positive pregnancy test, I ran to my lady doctor to make that early appointment to get my medicine. Hurried to the pharmacy to be told they couldn't use my insurance, and wanted me to pay 780 for a 1 month supply for one of the meds. Several phone calls and emails between my doctor, pharmacy, and insurance company later and there wasn't a resolution.
I went to bed Monday night with no resolution. Tuesday night I transferred the prescriptions to a new pharmacy and that $780 prescription came back to a reasonable amount :) And I was introduced to my new best friend:

2. When did you last take a taxi and where was that somewhere?
Most recently was last Sunday. We often run late before church so we take a cab most days in order to get there on time for the classes and service.
3. What's something you can do today that you couldn't do a year ago?
I can now... bake homemade bread (and cinnamon bread). I have a recipe if your interested.

4. How often is chicken (in some form or fashion) on your menu at home? Which of the following would you most like to see on your table tonight...a chicken salad sandwich, your mom's fried chicken, a Chick-fil-A meal, Cracker Barrel's chicken n' dumplings, a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings, or 'hold the chicken, I'm a vegetarian'...?
I love Chik-fil-a sandwiches (and um, milkshakes) on a roadtrip but a good chicken salad sounds healthier and tasty.

5. What was your favorite television program when you were a kid? What characters do you remember the most?
I remember watching Barney on the one television channel I grew up with. I didn't really watch television enough to have a favorite.

6. What was the last piece of 'art' you made?
Hmm. Does my Thanksgiving tree count?

7. What frustrates you most about the Internet?
I can't complain, seeing as how the internet has been nothing but good to me in this whole insurance debacle, fixing several of my problems. Amazing that I am able to access my chart, test results and prescriptions online.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I walked into my nearby Dunkin' Donuts on Monday, realized that I couldn't get the coffee that I wanted, and opted for a Mango smoothie instead. Have you had their smoothies? They are amazing, and I am able to fool myself into thinking they are a good alternative due to the yogurt. Win-win.
So tell me..
Have you ever given yourself shots? Do you have any tips or tricks?
Do you make your own bread? Share the link below if you have it online.
Have you connected with me on Facebook yet? How about Google+ or Twitter?

I kind of want Cracker Barrel chicken and dumplings now :)
ReplyDeleteI grew up with the Cracker Barrel-esque home cooking, so I think that would be last on my list. The answer to that question really depends on what you miss, and what you grew up with :)
DeleteYou can't go wrong with a Chick Fil-A sandwich...and, of course, their sweet iced tea! No, I've never given myself shots, but I'm sure you'll do just great!
ReplyDeleteI'm not one for sweet iced tea, but of course, I'm a Northerner ;-)
DeleteThanks for the vote of confidence, I hope you're right!
I love the idea of making a Thanksgiving tree! I'll have to remember to do it with our children this year.
ReplyDeleteIt took a while, I would suggest starting in September, It was fun to see filled up, and I'm sure your children would love it more than we did. The things they would be thankful for would probably be more interesting :)
DeleteI've never given myself shots, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it quickly. Do you have Chick-fil-A in the city? I've never seen one. We don't have them in our corner of NJ. Probably for the best : )
ReplyDeleteThere is one Chick-fil-A inside NYU, for the students..... but we are getting one (a HUGE Chick-fil-a) this year! I can only imagine the lines inside (and probably the protests outside). Oh, new york... they will likely be coming your way soon!
DeleteHi!! Thanks so much for visiting my Hodgepodge today! Nice to "meet" you! I love Chick Fil-A too. I have only given myself a shot once, and it was not pretty. When Joe's mom used to visit, I would give her insulin, and Joe now has to give himself insulin. He just does it. I'm sure you will be able to handle it. It's amazing what we can do when we don't have a choice. Joyce gave us another fun Hodgepodge!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you as well! "It was not pretty" is vague, and now I'm imagining my own version of "not pretty". Thanks for that Terri!
DeleteYou're right though, It has to be done, so it will be :) Thanks for stopping by!
I have not given myself shots - but had to get allergy shots for many years. You do what you GOT to do! And if it's about making your pregnancy work, then go for it - and good luck!!! I love your Thanksgiving tree too. Great idea! Wait! DD didn't have your coffee?? Horrors!!! I LOVE me some Dunkin Donuts coffee!
ReplyDeleteMe too! And they did, but I'm giving it up cold turkey because it's easier for me this way. I drew a blank when the cashier asked what I wanted, so I said a smoothie. And it was amazing. So I had to let everyone on the Hodgepodge know :)
Deleteomg, no I have never given myself shots! Ack! I've never had DD smoothies either, I prefer their iced coffee! I love making smoothies at home, though!
ReplyDeleteI prefer it as well, but gave it up cold turkey. And I could never pretend that I make smoothies at home. Maybe in the future, but not now :)
DeleteHi, Farin...glad you were able to work out the pharmacy quandry. I have never given myself a shot, but my husband has. Loved your comments and am thinking of you in your pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, I'm glad to hear so many people saying that this is a regular thing, if not for themselves then for loved ones. Makes me hopeful for this new needle adventure :)
DeleteGlad you got the pharmacy stuff sorted! Ugh, I hate when lame details get in the way of filling a prescription. I've never given myself a shot, but I've drawn other people's blood- I'm sure it's totally different when it's your own body!
ReplyDeleteYes, now it's time to relax and enjoy this :) I had it given by a nurse today, I return tomorrow to show that I can do it. I feel like I'm being tested for my shot-administering ability. :-/
DeleteCongratulations! How exciting to be making a baby! It's been 43 years since I did that but can remember so well the excitement, the uncertainty and yet the sheer delight in knowing that in a few short months you will meet the most wonderful little person. So glad the insurance mess got worked out for you and in short order.
ReplyDeleteThank you Elizabeth, and I can only imagine that the memories don't fade :)
DeleteGlad the insurance got straightened out. Nope, never had need to give myself a shot. Also won't give the dogs a shot. I do make my own bread and now I'm hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich.
ReplyDeleteMe too, and I wouldn't ever plan on it if this hadn't come up. I don't care for needles, but I think it's only because they are taking my blood. This is bloodless, so I should be okay :) And I want a grilled cheese too!
DeleteInsurance can be such a nightmare, so glad you got it all worked out in your favor. My daughter is pregnant and has to take two blood thinning shots a day the entire pregnancy. She's had 4 late term miscarriages the past 4 years so this is hopefully going to allow her to carry this baby full term. Blessings abundant to you!
ReplyDeleteNo shots here and having the insurance pay for drugs is hit and miss. Congrats on the pregnancy!
ReplyDeleteThank you, and the insurance problem was resolved when a kind nurse went to bat for me. Always good to have friends on the inside :)
DeleteStopping by from the Wednesday Hodgepodge - it's my first week and I am really enjoying going through the links. I read your About section and you make some great points - there is a lot of encouragement available on the Internet especially in the form of bloggers who may be experiencing some of the challenges you are going through. I love lifestyle blogs - it is interested to read the ins and outs of the daily lives of others, how they cope with marriage, children, their jobs or interests, sharing recipes, travel tips, and then traveling along virtually with them. It's nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you as well, and thanks for the kind words :) I hope that I can convey day-to-day life here, as well as offer encouragement and showcase my city. Thanks for stopping by!
Delete** it is interesting - typing too fast and not proofreading enough this morning!
ReplyDeleteit's okay, I'm still waking here too!
