This Past Week's Lowlights

Many people today are writing about their weekend highlights. Well, in an effort to keep things real I'm going to admit that this was not a great week for me. So instead of 'highlights', I'm doing a lowlights post on all the things that I wish hadn't happened.
1. Tom was 'kidnapped'. ***not really*** There was a phone call at 9am Thursday where someone told me that they were holding Tom ransom for $600. Of course, it seemed scammy. But, it took us an hour to find out that Tom was found in class, perfectly fine by the campus police. That was a stressful morning.

2. My 'aunt' decided to show up on Sunday, very late and very inconsiderate. But, this display made me smile.
3. I bought some valentines to hand out and gave some to my in-laws yesterday. As I handed them out, they were a bit excited, and we quickly found out that they thought we handed them pregnancy announcements. We had to explain that they weren't, which was awkward. They were especially confused when they saw the penguin tattoos.
4. And... My mother is in the emergency room with pneumonia, 4 hours away where I can't see her. Since we always have a car reserved for three-day weekends, we're going to see her this weekend but please pray for her as she recovers.

So tell me...
Have you ever gotten a call, demanding ransom for someone?
Or, been scammed over the phone?
I hope you all had a good week/weekend, leave me something good to read below!

  1. No scams, and blessing to you and your family as your mother recovers from pneumonia. My hubby had it once, and it took a long time to really feel well again. Very awkward moment about the suspected pregnancy announcement. People are always anxious to hear of an impending birth in the family. Don't let it ruffle your feathers.

    1. Hopefully we can provide some support, even if she should be home by the time we arrive in town. And, yes, I guess I will have to announce anything as what it is (like a Valentine) that I give them from here on out. It didn't bother me so much as it reminded me that they are awaiting the news as much as we are.

    1. They said he 'caused' a car wreck, and since he was an illegal citizen they can't go through insurance or the police. And, unless we paid the $600 for repairs to him we wouldn't see him again. Ugh. Rotten people. Thank you for the prayers, I hope so too!

  3. What in the world?! Who got your number and said something like that? Were the police able to trace the call?? I'm so sorry your week was rough. That can only mean this week will be better!

    1. I have no idea, but the police weren't interested. Basically said that they know all about these scams, they are common, and a police report won't do anything. But I think you're right, it's all uphill from here!

  4. Thank you for keeping it real! Things just suck sometimes and that's the way it is. On the other hand...a ransom phone call?? I've never heard of that before!
And I hope your mother heals quickly. I know it must be difficult being so far away from her.

    1. I can't get over the ridiculousness of that call either (or that the cops said it's commonplace). Thanks, shes a strong woman and should be going home today or tomorrow.

  5. Oh man ! Sorry for those troubling moments. The penguin valentines are fantastic though! I would have done something like that too. I am lifting up your mama in prayer.

  6. Hi, Farin!

We recently received a scam call that we were being sued by the IRS.
I can't imagine how I would feel if someone told me they were holding someone I love for ransom.
Just knowing someone did that to you infuriates me. That is just plain horrible!
My mom recently had pneumonia, also. She is doing much better.
It saddens me I only get to see her once a year and didn't get to see her at all in 2014.
We just live too far away, so I have to rely on my siblings.
    How is your mom doing?

    1. She's better, was able to take a much needed break from work and recover. It's such a hard thing to be away from loved ones and not be able to visit. We're blessed that we have the ability to travel to see when things like this happen, but I can't imagine if we lived much farther away. Sorry to hear about the IRS scam, I guess if anyone has an odd story, be skeptical? Of course, when it comes to someone's wellbeing, it will unnerve you to see that they haven't answered their phone (like my case).
